The worst draw for PSG
Reigning French champion, PSG automatically find themselves placed in hat 1. The capital club is therefore certain to avoid Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Bayern Munich or Manchester City and AC Milan, respectively champions of Germany, England and Italy. But Paris will not be able to avoid difficult opponents to play from pot 2.
Unhappy C1 finalist last season, liverpool is having a complicated start to the Premier League. But when it comes time to return to Europe, Jürgen Klopp’s Reds are in danger of waking up and could pose problems for Parisian players. Also to be avoided, even if PSG supporters would surely dream of revenge, Barça de Xavi or a reunion with Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea. As for pot 3, Paris will probably not want to face Borussia Dortmund who compensated for the departure ofErling Haaland with the promising Karim Adeyemi. Finally, in the fourth pot, PSG will want to avoid RangersEuropa League finalists in 2021-2022.
The best draw for PSG
Already an opponent of PSG last year, RB Leizpig seems to be an opponent within reach of Ile-de-France residents this season. Above all, it is the best possible draw (with perhaps Sevilla FC) from hat 2. Paris had certainly fought to overcome it at the Parc des Princes but the German club lost several players during the transfer window and did not has still not won a single match in three Bundesliga days. Except for bad surprises (Dortmund, Inter Milan or Napoli), pot 3 should offer PSG an opponent within its reach. The best draw would certainly be Shakhtar Donetsk who lost their armada of South Americans to the war in Ukraine. As for the fourth pot, the Parisians would surely prefer to fall on Maccabi Haifa, narrowly qualified for the chickens after an improbable CSC against Etoile Rouge.
The worst draw for OM
For the worst draw, there is plenty to choose from in Pot 1. Opinions are often divided between those hoping for a potential qualification or even the third and those who also like to have gala posters. Title holder, real Madrid can therefore be considered the worst draw. Bayern Munich or Manchester City are also to be avoided. Pot 2 is almost as consistent as pot 1. Liverpool and Chelsea, who recently won the competition, in 2019 and 2021 respectively, appear as possible combinations with Real Madrid, unlike FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC or Sevilla. Atletico de Madrid. Finally in hat 3, Inter Milan, second in Serie A, has all the tough opponent even if it would inevitably bring back memories to Alexis Sanchez. Borussia Dortmund, runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, would also be a tough draw. As a reminder, OM’s last participation in the Champions League dates back to the 2020-2021 season. The Marseille club found themselves with Manchester City, FC Porto and Olympiakos, taking only three points thanks to a success against the Greeks.
The best draw for OM
Winners of the Europa League last season, Eintracht Frankfurt have been placed in the first hat. Eleventh in the Bundesliga last year, the German club is on paper the most affordable opponent. Due to geographical constraints, OM will not be able to face PSG. Being in a group with Eintracht Frankfurt would prevent OM from pulling RB Leipzig. It would then probably be necessary to refer to Sevilla FC, fourth in La Liga, to continue to hope. Finally, the Shakhtar Donetskwho has had many departures due to the Russian invasion and has not played for many months, seems the closest opponent in pot 3. Depending on preferences, it is also possible to cite the RB Salzburg, Austrian champion, or Benfica Lisbon or even Sporting Portugal.
The rules of the draw
You know them, they are simple: there are four hats established according to the UEFA coefficient (except hat 1 with the winners of the two main European cups, Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt and the champions of the main championships, PSG, Manchester City, Bayern, Milan, Porto and Ajax.
These four hats will therefore be paid into eight groups, with one team from each hat per group (but it is impossible to have two teams from the same country in the same group.)
Last subtlety, for a story of TV rights, a certain number of team pairs will not be able to play the same evening. In fact, if PSG is drawn in groups A, B, C and D, then OM will necessarily be in groups E, F, G or H.
A point to consider for the draw
You already know that two clubs from the same country cannot compete. there is also another point to take into account, because of TV rights, OM and PSG, Real and Barça, Celtic and Rangers cannot play on the same day. Concretely, if PSG is in group A, B, C or D, then OM will necessarily play in group E, FG or H.
The final composition of the hats

Hello and welcome to this live
It’s the big day for the 32 clubs qualified for the Champions League. Tonight at 6 p.m., they will know who their opponents will be for the group stage marathon: a marathon that looks like a sprint this year since the six matches will take place before the group stage. The draw will be more lenient for PSG, in hat 1 and than for OM, in hat 4 and which will inevitably have a lot to do. Start of the draw at 6 p.m., to be followed live on RMC Sport 1, BFM Marseille and BFM Paris. And of course, on RMC in Rothen ignites and live commentary on RMC Sport.
