WhatsApp may soon let you export your backups from Google Drive

WhatsApp’s 2022 roadmap includes a long list of features, which are very likely to come to all users sooner or later. One of these features that the messaging platform is testing is aimed primarily at Android users. This will be an option to export chat backups from Google Drive.

A report by WABetaInfo reveals that WhatsApp plans to add a new option for users to export Google Drive chat backups to their devices.

The Backup section under Settings should have the new “Export Backup” option, which will export all chats, photos, videos, and files from Google Drive.

The space on the clouds Google offers 15 GB of free storage and those who rely on this benefit may find this option very useful, as it will help free up space. This information comes after a previous rumor, which suggested that Google could start offering limited space to store WhatsApp backups by ending unlimited backup support. However, no further updates on this topic have been provided at this time.

One thing to note is that this feature is still under development and therefore, will take quite some time to reach all users.

An unread chat filter

In addition to this, WhatsApp has introduced the unread chat filter for Android Beta. This will help people easily find unread threads, which tend to get lost as new threads appear. This filter was initially tested for the beta version of WhatsApp for desktop. Chances are, this filter is also available on WhatsApp for iOS. The new filter joins existing filters like Photos, Videos, Audio, and more.

You should know that the aforementioned features are part of testing and we don’t really know when they will be available as official features.
