The owner of a Tesla Model X has traveled 320,000 km at the wheel of his electric vehicle. A distance traveled which had a minimal impact on the capacity of the battery, corresponding to the figures put forward by the manufacturer.
Anyone who owns an electric vehicle logically hopes that their battery will last for many years. Especially on the side of Tesla where changing a defective battery costs a small fortune if the car is no longer covered by the warranty. Interviewed by the YouTube channel Out of Spec Reviews, the owner of a Tesla Model X claims to have traveled 200,000 miles (321868.8 km) with it over a period of five years.
Between 60 and 80 percent of the time, he was charging his car on Tesla’s Supercharger network, whose repeated use could lead to faster battery degradation. However, it is clear that this did not have much impact on his. When the owner bought the car new, it had a battery capacity of 93.7 kWh. Five years and 320,000 km later, the deterioration amounted to 9.8%. That is a resulting battery capacity of approximately 84 kWh.
Tesla Model S and X battery: 10% degradation after 320,000 km
A level of degradation in line with that put forward by Tesla who had laid a report on this subject last May. According to the manufacturer, the loss of battery capacity increases to 10% from 320,000 km for Model S and X. Interestingly, an independent study, aggregating data from hundreds of Model S owners, is recently achieved rather similar results (85% remaining capacity after 196,000 miles traveled).

Note, however, that the distance traveled is far from the only factor likely to damage a battery. “Mileage is only one factor in retaining battery capacity; battery age is also an important factor”says Tesla.
