VIDEO – Is there really an SUV to beat the Tesla Model Y?

If Tesla is often at the forefront during online races, is this the case with the Model Y against a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and a Genesis GV60? Video response.

It’s no secret that electric cars are fast. The most impressive thing is to see that cars with a dubious appearance are in fact racing beasts. At least in terms of acceleration. The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, Genesis GV60 and Tesla Model Y are just that much faster than they look. In this online race, we have the chance to see which of these three 100% electric SUVs is the fastest in a straight line. As demonstrated on the Sam CarLegion YouTube channel, these three electric cars are direct competitors. The Tesla is the most disadvantaged because it is not the Performance version. The GV60 and Mach-E GT are the fastest variants in their respective catalog.

On paper, the Model Y Dual Motor develops 384 horsepower, the GV60 has 483 and the Mustang Mach-E offers 484 horsepower under its hood. You would think that the Tesla has nothing to do in this race, but it weighs more than 181 kg less than its competitors of the day. The Mustang Mach-E slips off the line easier and faster than its rivals. This advance, however comfortable, did not last. And finally it is the GV60 that wins. That might not be the case if the GT didn’t limit its performance after 130 km/h, but that’s the way it is.

Tesla forgotten?

The Tesla Model Y is not slow either: it also catches up with the Ford at the end of the second race. The race with a rolling start gives similar results, the Genesis runs away from the other two and the Mustang comes in last place. We’d like to see the Model Y Performance in this same test, it probably wouldn’t give its two rivals a chance.

Interestingly, the GV60 has a weak point. After only a few races, the battery drains so quickly that the team decides to stop the race for fear of not having enough power to complete the trip and get home.
