We’ve been hearing about a foldable Pixel Fold phone from Google for a few years now, but it seems the search giant still doesn’t feel ready enough to enter this new market. However, a recent report from the New York Times reveals a detail that makes us smile!
The story of this smartphone
Initially, the Google Pixel Fold was to be released in 2021but that obviously didn’t happen and the phone was delayed at a later date. Well, that date could very well be sometime in the year 2023, as people familiar with the matter who spoke to the NYT strongly imply.
Since the pandemic hit the world in 2020, the tension between the United States and China has only intensify, and it continues even in 2022. As a result, many companies like Google, Apple, Samsung, etc. have slowly but surely moved their device manufacturing operations in China to other countries.
The report says Google intends to move up to half of its Pixel phone production to the Vietnam by the end of 2022. The phone maker’s other colossus, Samsung, has already done that.

Production problems
The most interesting part related to the Pixel Fold is that the source familiar with the matter claims that Google is obligatory to keep phone production in China. Why ? Due to the advanced parts that make up its hingewhich supposedly can only be assembled there.
The year 2023 almost seems like the year last chance that Google will have to release its first foldable phone, because the market for these devices is already considerably developed. Some of the best foldable phones have already been released, and we’re not just talking about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, but other foldable phones such as the Oppo Find N or the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold.
