The turn of the Tesla Model Y 2021 to be tested in winter by the RPM team

After having previously faced the Laurentides wildlife reserve aboard the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the RPM team set itself a new challenge in mid-December: returning to Quebec from Dolbeau-Mistassini aboard a Tesla Model Y Long Range 2021 via Charlevoix. This journey of more than 450 kilometers will allow them to test the vehicle to see how it copes with difficult weather conditions and charging at the Electric Circuit’s fast charging stations.

Tesla is recognized among all brands of electric vehicles to be the one that offers the most avant-garde technology. Since the Model Y is the latest from the Californian company, the RPM team wondered how is it able to face the difficult winter conditions that we encounter in Quebec? Will its performance live up to the manufacturer’s reputation? To find out, Luc-Olivier Chamberland and Samuel Lessard left Dolbeau-Mistassini to go to Quebec on board.

To complicate life and lengthen their journey in order to test the alleged autonomy of 512 kilometers of the vehicle, the animators chose to go through Charlevoix. Over more than 450 kilometres, they will test the functionality and performance of the product, as well as its overall performance. Even if the announced autonomy should theoretically allow them to make the trip without recharging, the Charlevoix hills, the temperature below the freezing point and the snow will force them to stop recharging at an Electric Circuit fast charging station.

This terminal was suggested to them by the application of the Electric Circuit which took into account the vehicle in which they were traveling and other external factors such as weather conditions, the type of tire and the setting of the heating system. Before starting charging directly with a cell phone, they will have to use an adapter to plug in the vehicle, which will demonstrate one of Tesla’s specificities.

Once autonomy is regained, they will take the road again in the direction of Quebec. We will meet them in the studio to deliver their final impressions of the model. Whistleblower: they hated the cruise control. Don’t miss the show!
