The myth of the electric truck will finally become reality. Tesla will finally market its own, soon. Here are the very last photos of the Semi.
Tesla Semi – After many postponements of the start of production, the California heavyweight finally seems to be coming to fruitionwith marketing which could begin before the end of the year.
Unveiled with great fanfare in 2017, the Tesla Semi promised to revolutionize road transport from 2019. Unfortunately, as often within the Palo-Alto firm, this newcomer went from setbacks to setbacks during its development phaseit seems laborious as the equations to be solved are complex to hope to attract a clientele of very demanding professionals.
Laborious certification
But, in this start of the 2022 school year, the sky is clearing up for Elon Musk’s tractor, in view of the new photos posted on the brand’s official website. We discover the Tesla Semi in its final dress which, compared to the 2017 showtruck, is adorned withequipment required for certification. Unfortunately, it must be equipped with imposing mirrors which will logically harm aerodynamics, in the same way as the offset sheet metal rims which replace the flanges of the prototype.
Despite these compromises, the machine remains faithful to the original silhouette, as well as to its unique cockpit placing the driver in the center of the cabin to improve safety in the event of an impact. Ultra refined, it comes down to a steering wheel framed by two screens grouping together almost all the controls, as always with Tesla.
More than 800 km in one go
At its launch, the date of which remains to be specified, the Tesla Semi should offer several levels of autonomy, from 483 to 805 kmdepending on the battery pack chosen to animate the trio of electric motors allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about twenty seconds. But road professionals will especially remember its low running cost, allegedly divided by 2.5 per kilometercompared to a thermal model, thus allowing operators to achieve substantial fuel savings estimated at up to $200,000 during the first three years of use, according to the official voice.
The competition is not left out
By using this virtuous mode of propulsion, Tesla also promises its customers reduced immobilization, due to the reduction in maintenance frequencies. It remains to know the price of this sacred piece which intends to upset the deal on this sector particularly decried from an environmental point of view. But, since 2017, the competition has not remained idly by, like Freightliner which offers the eCascadia, Volvo Trucks with the FH Electric, without forgetting the Chinese Geely and its impressive Homtruk, promised for production in 2024.
