Mobile chargers will no longer be included as standard when purchasing a Tesla vehicle, Elon Musk announced on Twitter.
Considered too little used, Tesla decided to remove the presence, by default, of its mobile connectors in its vehicles in the United States. It was Tesla CEO Elon Musk who confirmed it on Twitter (of which he is also the majority shareholder) after being challenged by a user. This measure is effective, for the moment, than in the US market. For him : “Usage statistics are very low. On the bright side, we’ll be including more adapters with the Mobile Connector Kit. »
A cable not always necessary to recharge
The Mobile Connector is not not indispensable to can charge your Tesla vehicle. The use of a public charging station or a Supercharger of the brand does not require an additional charging cable, which could confirm that they are not often used. They are, however, useful for charge your car on a outlet Where domestic.
The Tesla Mobile Connector available from an additional $200
The “good” news is that the most accessible mobile connector will lower its price. Previously displayed at 275 dollars, its new price is $200 (about 184 euros). This is Gen 2. The most expensive costs up to $400 (around €369). Elon Musk assures that it is very easy to order them at the same time as a vehicle. Again, this measure is valid only in the United States for now.
Based on feedback received, we will drop mobile connector price to $200 & make it easy to order with car.
Note, mobile connector is not needed if you have a Tesla wall connector or to use Superchargers.
Recommend installing Tesla wall connector well before car arrives.

Is the semiconductor crisis also in the game?
If the main argument put forward by Elon Musk is the low use of these mobile connectors, another phenomenon could explain this decision. The semiconductor crisis which affects many fields, including the automobile, could also explain why these charging cables are no longer standard, simply because the parts used to manufacture them are not available.
A fact that could also explain the brand’s strategy. She wants offer more adapters so that its customers can use competing charging cables. A very plausible theory. Some users have complained that mobile connectors were out of stock. They are currently in France.
