Nearly 7,000 buyers of electric vehicles sold in Canada last August were eligible for a rebate from the Government of Canada’s iZEV incentive program. Of the number, about a third were new Tesla Model 3 owners.
The Tesla Model 3 has indeed largely dominated the list of best-selling electric vehicles as part of the iZEV incentive program. This program provides up to $5,000 in rebates for electric cars whose base model is offered for less than $55,000 and which do not exceed $65,000. Eligible electric SUVs must cost less than $60,000 for the base model and less than $70,000 for other trims.
The program was particularly popular in August when 6,956 electric vehicles received a discount. Of these, 2,177 were Tesla Model 3 models which, however, are no longer eligible for iZEV program incentives.
In reality, only the rear-wheel-drive version of the Model 3 was eligible for the program, but since November 2021 no Tesla is eligible for an incentive from the Government of Canada. The vehicles registered last August are therefore Model 3s ordered before November.
More than half of the models were sold in Quebec (3,518 units sold) while British Columbia (1,669 units sold) and Ontario follow (1,373 units sold).
It is important to note that we are only talking here about vehicles eligible for iZEV program rebates. That said, the following ranking is not much different from that of the best-selling electric vehicles, incentive or not.
