A few days ago, we were talking about the new strategy put in place by Google to establish itself in the years to come as one of the strongholds of smartphone sales.

Thus, it appears that the firm based in Mountain View would bet mainly on an Ultra version of the Pixel 7 and on a foldable laptop which should be the Pixel Fold or the Pixel Notepad. Obviously, the Google Pixel Fold would be in pole position to play this role. The recent leaks about the characteristics of the device which were relayed today by the site 91mobiles now tend to prove this.

Leaks about screen, processor and primary camera specs

The author of the revelations is an informant known under the pseudonym of Digital Chat Station. This is the one who indicated that Google has partnered with Foxconn to manufacture the American brand’s flagship smartphones for 2022. Which is a surprise since Google has moved production to Vietnam in 2020.

It was through a post on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site, that Digital Chat Station revealed the likely specs of the Pixel Fold. According to him, the device would have a 2K screen as well as a central cutout in the shape of a hole intended to receive the front camera.

The foldable laptop would work thanks to the Tensor 2 chip manufactured by Google. The main camera should have a 50 MP sensor while the secondary camera would benefit from the contribution of a Sony IMX787 type sensor. Information which in passing confirms that which has leaked previously.

The Chinese informant also gave indications about the material from which the frame of the Google Pixel Fold will be made. According to him, it would have a ceramic body. Which would be a novelty for Google since the brand that manufactures Pixels has always opted for materials such as plastic, glass and metal for the body of its devices.

Google Pixel Fold: a device that returns to the front of the stage

The first time the Google Pixel Fold was really talked about was in November 2021. At the time, a launch schedule was suggested by some observers. According to them, Google’s first foldable smartphone should be available in the first half of 2022. Needless to say, this launch schedule has never been met. However, it is not excluded that it is Google which finally gave up following its roadmap until the end.

A few months after the first serious rumors about the existence of the Pixel Fold, we learned that the foldable device would be sold at a lower price than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Everything was obviously ready for a launch. Except that Google executives felt at the time that the Google Pixel Fold had no chance of winning in the foldable smartphone segment that is dominated from head to toe by Samsung.

It wasn’t until February 2022 that a tweet from Ross Young brought the Pixel Fold up to date. This one indicated that Google had resumed work on its foldable device. Today’s revelations therefore confirm the revival of the Pixel Fold. So let’s hope that this time the project will go well to the end.
