Alzheimer’s disease affected approximately 900,000 people in France in 2015 according to the Foundation for Medical Research. In France, there would be a new case every three minutes, or approximately 225,000 new diagnoses per year.

Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia representing 60 to 70% of cases and yet there is currently no treatment capable of curing this disease.

Any recommendation is therefore good to take to avoid developing it or, at the very least, slowing down its development. According to American researchers from the Fatty Acid Research Institute (FARI), one of these recommendations would be to add more foods containing omega-3s to your diet.

You probably already consume them, perhaps even without knowing it: omega-3s. These essential fatty acids for the development of our body and the proper functioning of our brain have long been known for their benefits on our health. However, they are only provided by our diet because they are not produced by the body itself.

In this case, to prevent Alzheimer’s, a very specific omega-3 is needed: DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). It is rich in central nervous system membrane phospholipids and particularly important for our mental and visual functions.
