Qatar reportedly expelled workers who demanded their wages

The British NGO Equidem announced on Monday that Qatar has expelled dozens of foreign workers who organized a demonstration on August 14 to demand their unpaid wages. At least 60 workers had blocked traffic outside the Al Bandary company in Doha because some of them had not been paid for seven months.

Qatari authorities confirmed the detention of protesters, but declined to say whether any had been deported. The Ministry of Labor said it paid the salaries of Al Bandary workers, without further details.

We spoke to protesting workers and one who was deported to Nepal. We have confirmed that he has returned home, and that others from Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Egypt and the Philippines have also been deported. “says Mustafa Qadri, executive director of Equidem.
