Portugal ensure against the Czech Republic, Spain dominates Switzerland

On the occasion of the third day of League A of the League of Nations, Portugal hosted the Czech Republic. With a draw and a victory in the first two matches, Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates wanted to continue to fly away at the top of their group. For this match, CR7 was obviously a starter in a very offensive Portuguese team including Diogo Jota, Bernardo Silva and former Parisian Gonçalo Guedes. And the Portuguese have responded this time and in a very good way.

After a fairly balanced first quarter of an hour, Portugal slowly but surely put their foot on the ball. If it took a very good save from Diogo Costa in front of Kuchta to keep the scoreless (31st), the formation of Fernando Santos ended up taking the advantage thanks to a magnificent goal from João Cancelo. After a good combination with Bernardo Silva, the City side found himself eccentric in the area, but fired a powerful shot from a tight angle. Surprised, the Czech porter could not do anything (1-0, 33rd). A few minutes later, it was the former PSG Guedes who made the break thanks once again to Bernardo Silva (2-0, 38th). When they returned from the locker room, Portugal managed their lead without lowering their intensity. Enough not to be surprised and take the lead of his group.

Spain offers a first success

In the group’s other match, Spain traveled to Switzerland. And in this meeting, it is still a former Parisian (he was loaned to Sporting CP this season) who found the net. At the start of the game, La Roja took the lead thanks to Pablo Sarabia. The midfielder was at the conclusion of a great Spanish action (13th, 1-0). Enough to take the three points since the score did not move and Spain quietly managed the meeting thereafter to afford its first success in this edition of the League of Nations. In the standings, the Spanish formation remains second just behind Portugal.

Finally in the other matches of the evening, Erling Haaland’s Norway was held in check by Slovenia in Pool B. Sweden lost at home to Serbia. Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic scored the game’s only goal. Finally in pool C, note the great victory of Greece (3-0) or Kosovo against Northern Ireland (3-2).

The results of the evening:

  • Portuguese 2-0 Czech Republic (Cancelo, Guedes)
