To prove it, these scientists from the University of Arizona followed 1,007 volunteers questioned on their status as a couple and on indicators such as the duration of falling asleep, the degree of fatigue, the level of stress or the tendency to suffer. sleep disorders.
Stress, fatigue, sleep apnea
Result, those who sleep in pairs are less exposed to episodes of insomnia, experience less fatigue on a daily basis compared to people sleeping alone. Accompanied sleepers also fall asleep faster and are less likely to suffer from sleep apnea.
The occurrence of anxiety, stress and even depressive disorders were also reduced in people sleeping as a couple. A point also confirmed in terms of satisfaction in social relations.
What “confirm a better balance of sleep in accompanied sleepers”, confirms Professor Brandon Fuentes, main author of the study. Even if, it should be noted, this work does not establish a causal link on this improvement in well-being. Is it linked to the overall feeling of love, to emotional security, to a lower degree of stress among people in a couple compared to single people? Many points remain to be clarified!

In contrast, the researchers went so far as to assess the impact of sleep quality in parents sleeping with their children.
As a result, parents present “increased risks of severe insomnia, stress and depression”. Ditto for “sleep apnea, less control over their own sleep rhythm and a decrease in the quality of their social relationships”.
