160,000. This is the number of subscribers who follow the Fréjusienne Diane Benhamou, 27, on the social network TikTok. Her handle, “Estheriumcrypto,” is a pun combining her middle name Esther and the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
Because it is indeed a question of cryptocurrency in its contents. “I carry out popularization work on projects that seem to me to be interesting”says the young woman.
She also discusses topics related to economic news and shares more personal videos.
A career launched thanks to a… joke
It was his two brothers who gave him, very young, the passion for Tech. “When I was little, I was already watching videos of Steve Jobs”remembers Diane Benhamou.
After studying at a business school, in 2019 she joined an advertising agency within the creation department in Paris. There, she meets cryptocurrency enthusiasts. “My work colleagues put me in the mood. I started investing by following their advice”she explains.
In December, Diane decides to create a TikTok account dedicated to deciphering the news related to this area. Do you want to share your knowledge with the public? Not quite…
“I wanted to prank my boss, who is also a crypto influencer on TikTok. I was waiting to see his reaction when he came across my profile”she points out.
Except that the joke is going to get very serious. In two weeks, his account went from zero to 100,000 subscribers and partnership requests poured in. The career of the neo-tiktokeuse is launched.
Contrary to certain crypto influencers who promise to earn huge sums by betting on this or that digital currency, Estherium does not want to be perceived as a “investment advisor”.
“I don’t encourage my subscribers to invest because I assume it’s wasted money even if profits are achievable. I talk about current trends in my videos.”
She also encourages her subscribers to do their own research on the projects developed in her videos. Among them, the young woman affirms that less than “10% is sponsored content. I receive hundreds of proposals a week, I only share projects that I consider interesting”.
Misogynistic remarks
The field of the technosphere and cryptocurrencies is still largely dominated by men. Like all women who evolve in a male environment, Diane has had to face sometimes violent attacks.
The launch of his TikTok account provoked a shower of misogynistic comments. “Nabilla in the Crypto”, “woman returns to the kitchen”, “which man is hiding behind this actress” are examples of reactions of Internet users to its first contents. “Some could not realize that a woman could be interested and decipher these themes”, she complains.
His first videos go so far as to make men already established in the environment react. “They called my boss. They were wondering who I was, where I came from”, says the Fréjusienne. Diane assures that the misogynistic remarks and comments have since ceased.
Despite the success of her videos, the young woman does not imagine devoting herself solely to this activity. She wants to continue to feed her TikTok profile in parallel with her work.
