Google Maps is a must-have app for finding your way, but it’s for more than cars and public transport. You can also use Google Maps to find the best cycling routes in your area. We’ll show you how.
When you take directions on Google Maps, you’ll typically see five modes of transportation to choose from: car, public transit, walking, carpooling, and biking. The bike option is hidden at the end, and that’s what we’re going to focus on.

To get started, open the Google Maps app on your iPhone or Android device. Use the search bar to find where you want to cycle.
Next, tap “Directions” on the location information map.
Select the bike icon at the top of the screen.
Just like with driving routes, you can see a few different routes to choose from. The routes will each indicate how long it will take to reach the destination. Select one by tapping on it.
Once you have selected the desired route, press “Start” to begin turn-by-turn navigation.
That’s all there is to it! Strap your phone into a bike mount, and you’re good to go! It’s a great way to find bike paths in your area. If Google Maps doesn’t find a route you like, you can measure your own.
