The latest version of the Google Camera application reveals a function that seems intended for Google’s future folding smartphone, the Pixel NotePad.

While the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro should be presented in detail in the next two months, probably by the end of September, we know more about Google’s mysterious folding smartphone. The 9to5Google site has discovered new clues pointing to a presentation in the short or medium term.
Within the latest update to Google Camera — the camera app for Pixel smartphones — new features have been revealed for the Google Pixel lineup, as well as new features that will be integrated into the app in the future. .
A mode dedicated to folding smartphones
This is the case in the first place of a new function known under the code name “Jupiter“. This actually concerns folding smartphones and is illustrated by a diagram showing a smartphone of the same type as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, with an interior fold and a screen that folds on itself. For 9to5Google, this is a sign that Google has not abandoned its folding smartphone concept:
With Camera 8.6, we have our best proof that Google has continued to work on its folding Pixel, thanks to the integration of a new mode dubbed “Jupiter“. On the devices on which it will be offered, Jupiter will be accessible via a button on the left of the button to switch cameras.
With regard to the diagram, we can thus imagine that Jupiter will be a functionality allowing you to take a selfie using the camera integrated in the folding screen or with the device offered on the external screen of the smartphone.

It remains to be seen, however, if this function is intended to be used specifically for Google’s future folding smartphone, which would be launched under the name Pixel NotePad, or if it is developed for other models. Remember that the Google Camera application is not the prerogative of Google products alone. Some manufacturers rely on it to develop their own applications. This is not the case with Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi, but manufacturers who rely more on Google’s software experience could be tempted to recover this function for their own folding smartphones.
Other functions discovered in Google Camera
Apart from the Jupiter function, 9to5Google also discovered new functions within Google Camera version 8.6. This is the case of Hotshot which will allow you to take better selfies thanks to tips, or Amber and Amethyst, two new video and photo shooting modes.
We should know more about the new features planned by Google at its Made by Google conference, expected at the end of September. It is during this period that the firm will officially unveil its two new smartphones, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, but also its connected watch, the Pixel Watch. We are also not immune to a surprise, potentially a folding Pixel NotePad.
