Announced last May, the Google Pixel 6a lands in our lands. This mid-range smartphone relies on a very balanced technical sheet. This new model a priori good at photography and video is available at the very low price of 459 €.
Google Pixel 6a: balanced and affordable
During its Google I/O conference, intended for developers, the Californian giant had lifted the veil on its Pixel 6a. At Google, models whose name ends with the letter “a” embody a form of “best-of version”.
They thus take up the main lines of flagship smartphones… while making a few concessions, for a more affordable price. So the Pixel 4a was a refined and light version of the Pixel 4,and the Pixel 5a erased the rare flaws of the Pixel 5 – but was unfortunately reserved for the United States and Japan.
Thus, the Pixel 6a takes up the main ingredients of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, like the famous black bar on the back of the device. At the front, there is a 6.1 inch OLED display at a ratio of 20:9, surrounded by thin borders at the top and bottom. A small punch houses the front camera.
On the photo side, precisely, the Pixel 6a relies on fairly balanced characteristics. We find:
- Sony’s IMX363 sensor 12.2 MP with a wide-angle focal length that we had already come across on the Pixel 5a…and on the Pixel 5.
- the IMX386 sensor, counting 12 MPdedicated to the ultra wide-angle – and which had proven itself on the Pixel 6.
Of course, the smartphone relies heavily on its Tensor chipentirely designed by Google, and which is able to execute the local AI-related tasks, even offline. Enough to boost image processing, with the modes night-shift, motion blur or even the Magic Eraser. Similarly, the lack of zoom is compensated by the “algorithmic” zoom. Finally, in video, the smartphone delivers sequences in 4K at 60 fps, with two slow motion modes (120 and 240 fps) in Full HD.
Pixel 6a price and availability
With its solid and balanced technical sheet, the Pixel 6 could well become one of the best photophones in its segment. It is currently available for pre-order at a price of €459, and will be available on the shelves from July 28.
For the duration of the pre-order, a pair of wireless headphones PixelBuds (worth €219) are offered to you.
