Google wants to expand its range of smartphones in response to market giants

In 2015, Google officially set foot on the mobile phone market by launching the first models of its Google Pixel. Seven years later, the best we can say is that the bet taken by the Mountain View firm is a big success. Which necessarily whets the appetites of this behemoth of technology.

As the official launch date of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro looms on the horizon, Google is already planning beyond this important deadline for its mobile telephony sector. The American company wants to be more than a smartphone brand that offers high-end devices capable of competing with the best phones from Apple and Samsung. It now wants to offer a full range of smartphones in order to position itself among the best sellers of laptops.

Foldable phones, symbols of Google’s new strategy

Rumors that are becoming more and more insistent indicate that the multinational headquartered in California will launch its first foldable phone model very soon. Another source relayed this morning by Sam Mobile has just confirmed the information again.

It is based in China and believes that Google has entrusted the manufacture of its first foldable smartphone to Foxconn, which has even started mass production. According to the Chinese informant, Google has not yet decided on the name of the device contrary to previous information. This one could very well be called Pixel Fold just like inheriting the name of Pixel Notepad.

In the meantime, it appears that the foldable smartphone has a design very close to the OPPO Find N and would have a 5.85-inch screen. As for the camera array found on the device, Google’s foldable phone could benefit from the 12.2MP + 16MP sensors found on the Pixel 5.

An Ultra version of the Pixel 7 is also in the small papers

A foldable phone will certainly not be enough for Google to challenge Apple and Samsung. The Mountain View firm is well aware of this. That’s why it’s also gearing up to launch the Pixel 7 Ultra soon. This is the other information revealed by the Chinese source which also indicates that Foxconn would have started working on this other Google device as well.

When it comes to the specs of the Pixel 7 Ultra, it has to be said that it is expected to have a 2K display as well as a ceramic body. Its camera sensor could be a Sony IMX787 which should offer 100 MP photo quality. In addition to the Sony sensor, the Pixel 7 Ultra could also have a 50 MP ISOCELL GN1 extracurricular camera.

With the Pixel 7 Ultra, Google should succeed in snatching market share from Samsung and Apple. While the foldable smartphone would allow the brand to position itself in a niche market in which Samsung has reigned supreme for years.
