Google Calendar will now help colleagues find you in a building

Getting peace in the office might be a little harder now thanks to a new Google Calendar update. The calendar app has received a new tweak that will now allow people to pinpoint your locationeven if you work in a campus or multi-building office space.

Users will now be able to select a specific office in a building as your workplaceand this information will be displayed in the corresponding Google Calendar location.

In addition to providing this additional visibility, Google says this will allow Calendar to offer smarter suggestions for meeting rooms, instead of forcing you to sprint to another building to make a call.

It will also give colleagues a better understanding of where you plan to work from on any given day — if you want, of course. According to the company, this update could also be useful for those who manage other people’s calendars, such as executive assistants, who can now update a person’s calendar workplace.

Whether you’re suggesting a meeting room to co-workers or want to know where someone might work for the day, we hope this update makes planning for in-person collaboration easier.adds the Google Workspace update blog announcing the news.

A very useful feature in a hybrid working world

Companies wishing to use this tool should ensure that the “Workplace” option is activated in Google Calendar. Offices in structured buildings must also be defined in the administration console.

The feature is rolling out and will be available for Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, and Nonprofits, as well as former G Suite Business customers. However, personal Google account holders, as well as Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Frontline and former G Suite Basic customers will not be able to access it.

This update is the latest in a series of changes to Google Calendar, which will also allow users to set their default work location, rather than having to manually enable the feature, making it easier to find out if someone is around for a face-to-face meeting or video conference call.
