Despite a weak autonomy (160Km on the highway and around 300 in town), the e208 has met with great success.. With the new finish Like
, Peugeot makes the battery bigger (52 vs 50kWh), which makes it possible to display 400Km WLTP – or 200Km on the highway, like the Zoe. The engine remains at 100kW, bad news because it is inefficient (we exceed 24kWh/100 at 130Km/h against 16/17 for a Tesla Model 3). This entry-level version is well equipped (automatic air conditioning, 7″ screen, panel recognition) but we hope that the manufacturer will also offer this battery on the rest of the range, which does not evolve for the instant. Still, at €33,000 (excluding bonuses), this 2022 e208 is a good alternative to the Zoé or the Fiat 500 to do the city and allow yourself a few weekend outings.
Mercedes will release in 2025, its electric G-Class, the EQG. We know a little more about the battery technology used! It will be a high density pack (+20/40%), developed by Sila Nanotechnologies. The capacity will be around 100kWh (which is still average for a large 4×4) but for a weight of only 495kg (600kg on a 100kWh Model S for example). As for autonomy, Mercedes does not give any figures, but with a consumption around 30kWh/100Km (the average for this type of machine), this big baby should not exceed 300Km on the highway or in 4×4 mode.
At the end of August, Skoda will present its electric Kodiaq, in the form of a concept car, the Skoda Vision 7S. This large 7-seater SUV is eagerly awaited, because currently only the Mercedes EQB fills this market segment – and it is not cheap! Obviously, the car will take over Volkswagen’s MEB platform, which already hosts the Enyaq, the ID.4 and the Audi Q4, hoping that the autonomy will be a little better than these models whose consumption remains significantly higher than a Tesla Model Y – also planned for 7 places very soon. While waiting for the concept, Skoda offers us a small sketch… see you on August 30!
Still in concept form, Mini had fun creating a Mini Pokémon Sauce. Presented at Gamescom, this small city car takes on the colors of Piktachu when you activate the pokemon fashion
and the small yellow head then appears in the center of the screen. The novelty is the possibility of connect your console to the car and use an integrated projector to play it in front of a wall, for example. Little chance that the subsidiary of BMW pushes the vice until making a commercial version of it, but know that at Honda, one can already connect a console in HDMI on Honda e and use the internal screen of the car!
Polestar, the sports subsidiary of Volvo (under the Chinese flag) will collaborate with Candela to create its first electric boats. This Swedish company founded in 2014 will take advantage of the technologies developed for the car in order to integrate its battery packs and its motorization in its next ships. The latter should also use foils, these small elements located under the boat, allowing them to rise to the surface of the water while minimizing friction. The interest is obviously to optimize autonomy, a recurring problem and even more present on boats, which consume a lot of energy. The energy saving would also be 80%, according to the manufacturer, compared to current electric boats.. Finally, with more than 3000 hours of use without maintenance, electric boats thus mimic the maintenance needs of electric cars, which are much less demanding than their thermal equivalent.
Finally, in its latest update, Tesla offers several improvements, including the possibility of set blind spot camera location. As we saw in our test of the Model Y 2022 (below), Tesla displays the screen of the camera located on the side of the vehicle when you activate the turn signal (an idea taken from Kia/Hyundai), but the image appeared a bit low, making the system quite unhelpful. From now on, it can be positioned in height, and even at the end of the screen!
