According to popular beliefs, breakfast rhymes with fruit juice. However, is it really a good idea?
It is very sweet
A glass of orange juice contains 8 g to 9 g of sugar per 100 ml, a soda contains 10 g. Orange juice is therefore extremely sweet. This is why drinking it in the morning, on an empty stomach, causes insulin spikes. This is what will increase the peaks of fatigue and hunger during the day. Whereas if you consume a lower dose of sugar, your blood glucose level will be constant. Especially since on an empty stomach, the body absorbs what we eat more easily. Even pressed, fruit juice contains fewer vitamins and fiber than whole fresh fruit.
How to replace it?
Coffee and tea replace it very well. For a healthier alternative to coffee, consider chicory, which is natural and plant-based. And if you can’t do without a cold drink, prefer lemon water or a large glass of water to rehydrate your body well after sleep. Otherwise, make yourself a fresh fruit salad!
It does not cut the hunger
A glass of pressed fruit will not cut hunger. To calm this sensation and for the brain to feel full, it is necessary to chew. So we forget about drinking juice while biting into a real fruit!
It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease
These sugary drinks are responsible for 180,000 deaths in the United States, according to a study published in 2014 by the Harvard School of Public Health. Another Australian study shows that fruit juices, like sodas, lower blood pressure and could increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
When should you drink it?
If you want to drink fruit juice, drink it during the day, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. This is the time of day when the body naturally produces a spike in insulin. This is why many of us take a sweet break at snack time. If you can, make your own juice.
