Cryptoassets: Binance CEO met Bank Al-Maghrib teams

According to an authorized source at Bank Al-Maghrib, Changpeng Zhao, the founder of one of the most important cryptocurrency exchange platforms, met with Central Bank teams before a brief exchange with the wali, Abdellatif Jouahri.

The visit of the CEO of Binance caused a stir, especially since the latter did not announce or hint at the reasons for his presence in Morocco. The only indicator of his movement in the Kingdom is a video of a few seconds, taken from a car at the entrance to Casablanca. This video where we can see the Technopark was posted on July 14 on his twitter account.

According to an authorized source at Bank Al-Maghrib, Changpeng Zhao met with the Central Bank’s business teams for an exchange session. “This is the first by the way,” says our source.

The CEO of Binance was later received by the wali, Abdellatif Jouahri, for a quick interview where he told him about the various exchanges, add our sources.

After resisting cryptocurrencies for a long time, the Central Bank has started substantive work on a draft regulation of crypto-assets. During the last press briefing following the Board of Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) in June, the Governor of the Central Bank specified that a draft law was being drafted. An internal commission and sub-commissions are working on the dossier. “This work is done on the basis of a benchmark of other central banks, and with the technical support of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,” he said.

“We want to speed up this project with the aim of reconciling innovation and openness to the outside world, with consumer protection and vigilance on the risks of money laundering and cash financing,” said Abdellatif. Jouahri.
