The Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation in mid-July for a vast cryptocurrency scam, reports France Inter on Monday, August 1. Forty complaints have been filed and the total damage is estimated at around 4 million euros.
In this case, dozens of Internet users have entrusted sums to a YouTuber specializing in cryptocurrencies, promising them attractive returns on investments, he has seized all the funds. According to a source close to the case, the number of victims can amount to nearly 300 people.
This youtubeur, whose pseudonym is Crypto Gouv, has never revealed his identity on the internet. On his Youtube channel, he managed to bring together a community of 4,000 people with whom he shared tutorials and to whom he offered to invest in common. “Investors have placed a hundred euros, others several tens of thousands of euros”specifies to France Inter the lawyer of three plaintiffs Maître Asta-Vola.
On July 9, Crypto Gouv publicly announced on its usual discussion channels that it was leaving with the funds, a message accompanied by a new tutorial detailing the underside of the scam. The investigation opened in mid-July was entrusted to the gendarmes of the Paris research section.
